Use & care

How to mount, remove, mix and clean your Mag Shaker™, and what to avoid.

3 rules for a solid hold

Dry magnet, dry metal. Water or sweat lowers the grip.

Whole magnet flat on the metal. Partial contact holds much less.

Twist to remove. About 30°, then pull away.

Mounting

  • Grip the bottle below the magnets. The magnet covers stick out on purpose, so your fingers never get pinched against flat metal.
  • Press one magnet flat against the metal, with the whole magnet touching.
  • Check it feels stable, then let go.
  • Mount your phone on the other magnet if you like.

Keep the magnet and the metal dry. Water or sweat between them works like a lubricant: the grip drops, and the bottle can slide down or fall. Wipe both dry before mounting.

If part of the magnet isn't touching the metal, the hold is much weaker. Hold strength also depends on the metal's type, thickness and paint. The Mag Shaker™ has been tested on the lifting equipment at Lifetime Fitness, Gold's Gym, LA Fitness, Crunch Fitness, Planet Fitness, Vasa Fitness and Equinox, and held on all of it: thick, thin, painted or smooth.

Testing at home? Skip the fridge. Stainless steel appliances are barely magnetic, so the hold there is weak. Use gym equipment or other plain steel.

Why stainless steel is different

Removing

  • Take your phone off first (if mounted).
  • Grab the bottle below the magnets.
  • Twist your wrist about 30°, either way, to release the magnet.
  • Pull the bottle away from the metal.

Pulling straight out without twisting takes a lot more force.

Attaching the phone plates

Every bottle comes with 2 thin metal plates (adhesive on one side). Center the plate on the back, so it meets the bottle's magnet. Pick one way:

  • Inside a thin case: both plates, stacked. Stick them in the center of the inside of the case. Strong hold through the case.
  • Outside the case: one plate. In the center of the back of the case. Strongest hold.
  • No case: one plate right on the back of your phone. Strongest hold.

Not sure your case is thin enough? Test before you peel. Lay the phone face down, stack both plates in the center of its back with the backing still on, and snap the case on to hold them in place. Mount the phone on the bottle: if it holds firmly, take the case off, peel the backing and stick the stacked plates to the center of the inside of the case. If it doesn't, use one plate on the outside instead.

Option to use metal plates with phone case or phone to allow any phone to mount on the magnetic Mag Shaker bottle

Works with any phone

Every bottle ships with two thin metal plates (adhesive on one side). Stick two inside your case, one outside your case, or one right on your phone for a strong magnetic hold.

Mixing protein & pre-workout

  • Liquid first, then powders and thicker ingredients.
  • Screw the lid on firmly and press the flip cap down until you hear it snap.
  • Hold the upper half, with a finger over the flip lid.
  • Shake for 10 seconds by rotating your wrist. Thick powder? Use two hands.
  • Enjoy!

Cleaning

Top-rack dishwasher safe, bottle and cap. The high-temperature magnets are sealed in for good and won't lose strength in the dishwasher.

  • Wash before first use, and right after every use.
  • At the very least, rinse with water within 24 hours to prevent odors.
  • Lid looking off-color? Scrub it with a wet wipe.
  • Hand washing works too: shake with warm soapy water.

Removing odors

Most BPA-free plastics hold on to smells if a bottle isn't cleaned soon after use. Try one of these:

  • Baking soda + vinegar: fill, leave overnight with the flip lid open.
  • Vanilla or damp newspaper: a few drops of vanilla extract on paper towels (or damp newspaper), crumpled inside, lid closed, 24 hours.
  • Coffee grounds: damp grounds inside, lid closed, overnight.
  • Air it out: after cleaning, leave the lid off for a while.

Precautions

  • No hot or warm liquids. The tight seal doesn't let pressure out, so the flip cap can pop open and spray.
  • Careful with mixes that build pressure (pancake or waffle batter, for example): keep a finger over the cap while shaking and open it slowly.
  • No carbonated drinks.
  • Point the spout away from your face when opening the flip cap.

Don't

Microwave it

The rare-earth magnets can overheat, get damaged or spark, which is a fire hazard. It can also damage the plastic and the magnet covers.

Not recommended

Freeze it

Like most plastics, frozen bottles get brittle and can crack, and the magnet covers wear faster. If you do freeze the contents, leave room at the top and the cap open so it can expand.
